Pool Table (page 3)

KILLER

A very well known and very sociable variation of the game with the winner being the last player with a “life” left and has the advantage of any number of players being able to participate.

Players names are put on the chalkboard with thee x’s next to their names – these are their respective ‘lives’

Balls are set up as for normal pool. The first player gets two shots – one to break the pack and one attempt to pot a ball (any balls potted off the break do not count as a life saved)

If a player pots a ball on his/her turn then they retain all their lives, if they fail to pot they lose a life.

Play passes from player to player in rotation according to the chalkboard list and each player gets one shot per turn.

The winner is the last player on the list with any number of lives left and all other players having lost all their lives.

MAXIMUM BREAK

An on-going competition to see who can pot all the balls in the minimum number of shots with all the normal rules of pool applied to play.

Scores can be recorded behind the bar and should be independently verified by a non-player.

Again this can be run over an extended period of time with prizes for the lowest three scores.

DIAMOND NINE

You will need a set of numbered pool balls to play this variation of pool, if your games machine supplier has only provided you with solid colour balls then ask them for an additional numbered set.

The aim of the game is to score the most points from potting the numbered balls.

This can be run as a knockout tournament or as an impromptu competition on a quiet night.

The balls are set up in a diamond shape with number 1 ball at the front and the number 9 ball in the centre of the diamond. The white ball starts in the “D” on the pool table.

Players must try and pocket the balls in sequential order starting at number 1 and ending with number 9. For each ball successfully put down the player is awarded one point, play continues as per normal pool until a player fails to pot a shot or do a “Diamond Lil” (a foul shot).

Diamond Lils are: when a player hits the wrong number, pots the white ball or misses a ball completely. The penalty for a Diamond Lil is that the opposing player can place the white ball anywhere on the table to take their next shot.

After potting 1 to 8 (at one point a piece) the number 9 is potted scoring 5 points.

BOBCAT POOL

To play bobcat pool, two balls are placed near each pocket and the remaining three (one of which is the black ball) and ft in the rack.

The rack is placed in the middle of the table.

The object of the game is to pot at least one ball on every shot without missing or a ball making contact with the rack.

To start the game the cue ball is placed behind the D line and shot at a ball that is up the table.

Once all the balls are potted, remove the rack and try to pot the extra balls, the black being the last ball potted.

The winner is the player that pots the black.
